For days we’ve been hearing fresh rumours that Jurnee Smollett would be returning to the role of Black Canary. A follow-up of some kind to Birds of Prey and the Fantabulous Emancipation of One Harley Quinn starring Smollett has been long wished for by fans.
The rumours picked up again this week when a number of sites began to report that HBO Max was interested in either a limited-series or movie based on the character. Those rumours intensified last night when Cinelinx reported that Misha Green would be writing the project. Green worked with Smollett on the hugely successful Lovecraft Country.
Overnight those rumours became a reality when both Smollett and Green confirmed development was underway:
