Superman & Lois stars Tyler Hoechlin and Elizabeth Tulloch who return as the titular characters. They will, in turn, be joined by Emmanuelle Chriqui as Clark’s ex-girlfriend, Lana Lang, Erik Valdez as Lana’s husband, Kyle Cushing. Dylan Walsh will portray Lois’ father, General Sam Lane. Review
With Tal-Rho safely locked up in a DOD Kryptonite Cell, only one thread remains to be fixed and that is his right hand lady Leslie Larr.
Not to waste any time, she unleashes an attack on the DOD to rescue Tal-Rho before Superman rocks up to stop her along with his new ally Steel and together they quickly put her down. It’s another great fight sequence and shows that while these two are not best friends now, they do now see eye to eye in the betterment of the planet.
A lot of the side characters get to have their moments in this episode ranging from Lois’ friend and co-worker Chrissy to the Cushings family who we saw last week being the conducting rod for all the issues that Smallville faced in the wake of Morgan Edge’s work.
Obviously it’s unfair to pin the blame on the Cushing’s but without the support from the above or explanation of what really happened, the townsfolk need to blame someone and sadly this family is taking the blame. In other shows this might be a detrimental episode, focusing on the smaller characters but here, it really works. It helps ground the story for those who can’t fly or who are not in the eye of the storm and we get to see the effects the major events have had on everyone.
Chrissy is keen to get the truth of what happened out there and is shocked to find Lois is reluctant to do so herself. It’s not until she witnesses the Mayor of the town stab the Cushing’s in the back and how cold everyone is being towards them that she decides to ‘leak’ the information for Chrissy to write the truth, as Lois gains some character growth by accepting she is too close to the situation to be non-bias to the events at hand.
General Lane gets some growth himself when he wants to disband Project 7734 before being stopped by Clark.
Clark believes project 7734 is needed in case he ever loses control. While I do like Superman and all the mad strong heroes, there has always been a debate on whether or not it is right to have contingency plans in case they ever lose control. It’s been debated through various comic book storylines, most famously in DC’s storyline Tower of Babel and the more recent Injustice Storyline. I for one understand and am for contingencies and it’s good and interesting to see that Clark too is in favour of keeping these weapons that could hurt him and it’s Lois who is against it initially. They eventually put it into the hands of Irons, giving him all the access to Project 7734’s weapons.
Setting up the final chapter to the first season of the show, Tal-Rho allows the Eradicator to take full control of him allowing him to break out of his prison and escape from the sights of Clark and Irons before revealing to us that he is charging himself up on the opposite end of the sun.
Verdict
Superman & Lois continues to deliver an intense storyline with every character big or small given adequate screen time and growth so ensure we care about each of them. With only two episodes left it’s pretty safe to say this is the strongest and most consistent first season for any of the so-called Arrowverse shows.
