Back in November we learned that 20th Century Studios had hired 10 Cloverfield Lane director Dan Trachtenberg to take on a brand new entry in the Predator franchise.
Speaking recently with Collider, producers John Davis and John Fox revealed a number of juicy details on the film. Chief amongst those was the new that the film will simply be titled Skull.
Skull is now confirmed to be an origin story that recounts the first time a Predator arrived on Earth. Both producers indicated that the story takes place “early” in human history. Whilst no casting has been confirmed, the producers did say that film will feature a female protagonist in the lead role.
Surprisingly the pair also confirmed that production is “three-quarters of the way through” meaning it really won’t be long under casting details are revealed.
“It goes back to what made the original Predator movie work,” said Davis. “It’s the ingenuity of a human being who won’t give up, who’s able to observe and interpret, basically being able to beat a stronger, more powerful, well-armed force.”
“It actually has more akin to The Revenant than it does any film in the Predator canon,” added Fox. “You’ll know what I mean once you see it.”
Trachtenberg directs Skull from a screenplay by Patrick Aison. No release date has been confirmed at the time of writing.
