Synopsis
Is redemption possible if it is coerced? Forced to confront the horrors of her past, Regan hits the road with Hannah – a victim from her past – who has her own set of secrets. Meanwhile, the other four remaining members of the Chimera find themselves tired of hiding from the world and move to reignite their reign of terror and death.
Review
With issue #1 (reviewed here) ending on an interesting note, I was definitely looking forward to get into issue #2. In the last issue Hannah had kidnapped Regan who was trying to escape The Chimera, the mysterious clan that she was a part of. Using her to seek revenge on The Chimera, Hannah is playing a very dangerous game with even more dangerous people.
Writer Cullen Bunn crafts a gripping and punchy story that never falters as you go progress through the book. Taking you on a dark journey as The Chimera rip through the town searching for Regan to bring her back “home,” but Hannah has other ideas to take her as far away as possible.
Issue #2 takes the story arc on a chilling journey through both the writing and the visuals. It makes for a genuine heart racing story. A kind of horror cat-and-mouse game. The story details the struggles Regan goes through to shake off her past, at the same time you begin to question her motives. Is she part of the solution? Or part of the problem? All I know is that part #3 is looking like it’s going to be one explosive issue.
Jonas Scharf is once again on the illustrations and brings a mix of realism and cartoon styling. The illustrations for the parts that are, shall we say a bit gory, are phenomenal and full of intense detail. Partnered with the colours that Guimarães has used and the book is just amazing to look at, the use of dramatic colours and dark tones highlights the dark intense atmosphere that Bunn is going for.
Verdict
Another explosive addition to the story arc, I am very much looking forward to see where the creative team are going to take this in the next issue, the way it was left all points to an even better issue.
