Review
At first look at the synopsis I was intrigued by Basilisk, a terrifying cult that brings horror to their local town with their superpowers, well that first part definitely grabbed my attention. What I did get in the sense of story far outweighed my expectations, Bunn brings a story of intense supernatural horror that keeps you hooked page after page.
An intense story from the start, Bunn brings us the story of Regan, a young woman who has escaped the Chimera and what now lies ahead for her now a victim from her past enlists her to take revenge on the cult.
What lies ahead is a fully action pack page turner that you won’t want to put down. The illustrations are unlike anything I’ve seen before with Scharf using a realistic noir style to the comic for the first part, I really liked the look of this I felt it added more drama to the story being told, the following pages are packed with incredible detail, the use of more darker colours really intensifies the dramatic feel to the story.
I really felt the story worked well and enjoyed finding out the beginnings of a story that looks like it is going to get better and better as the issues go on, I definitely look forward to seeing the story of Regan develop and how she is going to take on the evil Chimera.
Verdict
I found Basilisk #1 an intense story from the start to finish, I loved the art style and look forward to seeing more in the coming issues. Fans of action thrillers definitely need to pick this up, you will not be disappointed.
