Review
If you’ve ever come across the game Cyberpunk 2077, yes the one that was released with all the problems, you’ll see similarities in the main character Aiden McCormick and a certain Mr Reeves’s character from the game, Johnny Silverhand. Now this is by no means a bad thing as I am a big fan of the game and that is what initially brought my attention the the book in the first place.
London has brought us a dark and sinister story as we follow schizophrenic Det. McCormick as he battles with not only Detroit’s underworld he also needs to battle inside his mind.
A story arc full of action in every page that builds it’s intensity as you get further into the book. Flashbacks are utilised to build a strong story foundation for the reader to understand more of what McCormick is all about and get a look behind the macho bravado.
London weaves a fantastic story that is full of meaningful moments as well as all out action, I like the way that characters come in and out of the story making you remember parts you’ve come across.
Graphically Midnight Task Force is great, but like most Mad Cave titles I’ve come across this isn’t the Dandy or the Beano there are full on detail graphic images of gorey scenes which Giraldo has expertly done as it isn’t overly graphic or just using gore for the sake of it, each page visually tells a story bringing London’s words to life and engaging the imagination of the reader.
A fully engaging story that is full of all my action film favourites, bombs, explosions and plenty of fighting. The ending (without giving spoilers away) is something that you will notice builds up through the book and certainly is putting in the groundwork for a brilliant next issue, I can’t wait to see what the creative team have in store.
Verdict
From the first page to the last I was gripped, there are similarities to the game I mentioned previously and other action films which is by no means a bad thing, I am fully engaged in McCormick’s story and look forward to what comes next.
