Well, looks like we know what we’re getting for Christmas this year!
During the JujuFes 2021 special event in Japan it was revealed that the Jujutsu Kaisen anime film will premiere in Japanese cinemas with a release date of December 24th 2021. The film, which will be based on Jujutsu Kaisen Volume 0, a prequel story to the manga by Gege Akutami, was also teased with a new key visual.
This visual shows us (on the right) the protagonist of this particular arc, Yuta Okkotso, and if you’re a fan of the anime you would remember his name being brought up occasionally, peppered in and teased but never shown in all his glory. With him on the left features Rika, whom we won’t go into manga spoilers too much with but she plays a fairly big role in our protagonist’s backstory.
The caption on this visuals reads: “Jujutsu Kaisen’s origin ー Story of Love and Curse”
MAPPA Studios will also return as the animation studio producing Jujutsu Kaisen 0, with Toho Animation distributing. The film was announced during the anime season 1 finale on March 27th 2021, with a visual and teaser trailer giving us all a taste of what was to come! You can see those below.

If you wish to read the story, Viz Media distribute the ever-growing and best-selling manga, and here is their official synopsis of Jujutsu Kaisen Volume 0:
- Yuta Okkotsu is a nervous high school student who is suffering from a serious problem—his childhood friend Rika has turned into a Curse and won’t leave him alone. Since Rika is no ordinary Curse, his plight is noticed by Satoru Gojo, a teacher at Jujutsu High, a school where fledgling exorcists learn how to combat Curses. Gojo convinces Yuta to enroll, but can he learn enough in time to confront the Curse that haunts him?
It also just so happens that the release date is no coincidence; the date of the main story arc in this film, ‘Night Parade of a Hundred Demons’, also takes place on December 24th!
So, mark the date on your calendars, Jujutsu Kaisen fans!
