Synopsis
With Spooner on board, Ava hopes that her special abilities will help lead them to locate the Aliens spread out on the timeline, which could ultimately lead them to Sara. The Legends soon find themselves tracking an Alien in 1950s San Bernardino and having to figure out what is making the town go on a feeding frenzy. Zari lets Behrad know she is ready to use the Totem, but Behrad isn’t ready to share it, causing tension between them. Meanwhile, after crash landing, Sara tries to figure out a plan and runs into none other than Amelia Earhart (guest star JEN OLEKSIUK) who could be her ticket home.
Review
Picking right off where we left them last week, the Legends trace an alien to 50’s California and the birthplace of Big Bang Burger (or the later named Big Belly Burger). Something changed the timeline causing the entire town to mysteriously die and their newest member Spooner senses Aliens all over the place.
Something the Legends team has above the rest of the other teams in the Arrowverse is skill diversity. Alien sensor, burger flipper, ex criminal with knowledge on police codes and even a master of the dark arts! The Legends have them all!
Using his previous employment history, Rory is able to hear a police radio about a string of attacks linking to meat so the team split off to find the alien before the entire town dies.
Throughout the episode we get some sibling growth between Behrad and Zari who disagree on who should use the Totem. Behrad has always been a very confusing character in the show. He never really joined the team or had a real origin, I mean he only ever appeared thanks to the Legends messing with the timeline and changing events which ultimately cost us original Zari (who now exists within the Totem). So to see more growth between these siblings and their new timeline of events as well as the reasons for their actions is very much welcomed.
Behrad has always lived in his sisters now incredibly famous shadow and had stolen the Totem to help the Legends in a timeline we never saw, but now they know the truth of what originally happened, Zari believes she is the rightful owner and user of the Totem, throughout the episode however she does see Behrads point of view and thanks to Original Zari the Totem is split into two with both siblings being able to wield its powers.
Across the other side of the universe, Sara and Gary crash land ‘Launchpad’ style on an alien planet and begin their little adventure by following a normal looking dog across this unknown planet.
Sara questions why she was picked although let’s be honest. She was one of the 7 people in existence who helped save the entire multiverse, it should not be shocking why she was chosen!
This mysterious dog eventually leads them to meeting none other than Amelia Earhart herself! Legends never fails to surprise me at this point but this made me laugh out loud by how far left field it was.
Back in 1955 earth the gang manage to find the source of the problem and it’s the Big Bang Burger’s owner’s wife who for reasons beyond anyone’s knowledge found an alien cocoon and tasted the goo oozing out of it. Then using it as the secret sauce for her husband’s restaurant. While it brought in the customers it turned them into meat obsessed zombies!
Those at Big Bang Burger face off against these zombies and manage to subdue them using some of Zari’s future relaxing powder.
The alien bursts out of its cocoon and goes on to eat both the wife and owner before Spooner successfully shoots it dead and saves the day, thus earning her place on the Legends team.
Sara and Gary meanwhile soon discover Amelia has not only gone completely insane, she’s not even human anymore! (Or she was an alien in disguise? I’m not entirely sure yet). They run away with Sara being affected by some alien poison but find they are now being hunted by a larger group of unknown enemies.
Verdict
This episode gave me some really good retro horror movie vibes, helped by its mysterious alien and 1950’s aesthetic. I was quite surprised at the alien CGI too as it was very good for Arrowverse standards. A good chunk of the cast got some decent growth this week too with Ava pressing forward to try and find her fiancé despite Spooner being far too real with her before really getting to bond with the team some more. The Siblings got their time to grow and now they both can wield the totem which should give them more opportunities to show off later in the series. I do wonder how long Sara will be away from the gang and hope it won’t be too much longer but here’s hoping for an epic reunion in the near future and hopefully some official DC aliens joining the fight.
