Speculation on the long awaited sequel for Edge of Tomorrow has come in waves ever since a sequel was teased back in 2015. Six years later, fans are still waiting for some form of update. Over the years we’ve had bits and pieces such as an Instagram post from director Doug Liman which showed redacted whiteboards full of ideas for Edge of Tomorrow 2… and that was posted just last year. So is there still hope? Well, maybe not anymore.
Talking to Entertainment Weekly, Emily Blunt, who starred as Rita, now says that she isn’t sure whether the sequel will happen at all. Here’s what she had to say about the sequel/prequel:
“That was an amazing script, but I just don’t know what the future holds for it. I did read a script that was in really great shape, but it’s just a matter of if that can even happen now,” she says. “I don’t have the straight answer on that one.”

In an interview with Howard Stern last week, Blunt revealed that the prospects of a sequel may be too expensive for Warner Bros. right now. Despite the world gradually returning to some form of normality, the movie industry is still struggling.
“Honestly, I think the movie is too expensive. I just don’t know how we’re going to do it,” Emily lamented, saying she, director Doug Limon, and Cruise all wanted to do it, but it’s hard to align everyone’s schedules and even harder to produce a movie that expensive until the film industry figures out a more profitable path forward.
So Edge of Tomorrow 2 may still happen but it could be hit with even more delays especially while Blunt and Cruise are busy saving the world or trying to remain quiet in other movies. Would you like to see the sequel to Edge of Tomorrow? Let us know your thoughts in the comments.
Don’t forget A Quiet Place Part II is out very soon which stars stars Emily Blunt, Djimon Hounsou, Noah Jupe, Millicent Simmonds and Cillian Murphy.
