With their homes rocked by an attack – and Jace Beleren’s life hanging in the balance – Planeswalkers Kaya, Ral and Vraska must discover who is behind it all. But as they begin to suspect one of Ravnica’s biggest Guilds is behind the attack, it becomes clear their enemy may be plotting something even more destructive…

Review

After a huge first issue of Magic (check out my review here) I have been eagerly awaiting this second issue to continue the story and find out who (or what!) was causing the attacks. I can safely say that I wasn’t disappointed. Jed MacKay has done it again and entrapped me with his spellbinding storytelling.

Magic #2 follows the story of three Guardians: Ral, Vraska and Kaya, who team up to try to get to the bottom of the attacks that have blighted their once safe haven. They are also tasked with saving Jace, who is deep in a coma state after severely damaging his psyche.

As the book goes on it develops into a more mysterious and thrilling story as the Planeswalkers try to unlock the secrets to unfolding events. Mackay takes us deeper into the Planeswalkers story arc, showing them interact with other Guardians who they hope can help them with their fight. With the finger for the attacks beginning to point to one Guardian in particular it all leads to a very dramatic ending and building to an explosive #3.

Once again Jed MacKay has done a fantastic job with this keeping the reader hooked throughout but also leaving them desperate for more. Ig Guara utilises his stunning visual technique to bring the story to life with captivating visuals.

Verdict

I am fully hooked on the story of Magic and personally looking forward to the next issue to give answers we were left waiting for. Superb writing captivating on every page, fans of the MTG game will be loving this also would appeal to fantasy fans in general, definitely recommend picking this up.
