A lot of us had our fears about Deadpool 3 when Deadpool was bought by Disney during the acquisition of 20th Century Fox. How would they change Deadpool and what did that mean for the r-rating, which arguably makes Deadpool shine.
Well, we have some good news. Kevin Feige has confirmed that Deadpool 3 will be the first R-rated movie in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Speaking to Collider during a press event for WandaVision, Feige revealed:
“It will be rated R and we are working on a script right now, and Ryan’s overseeing a script right now… It will not be [filming] this year. Ryan is a very busy, very successful actor. We’ve got a number of things we’ve already announced that we now have to make, but it’s exciting for it to have begun. Again, a very different type of character in the MCU, and Ryan is a force of nature, which is just awesome to see him bring that character to life.”
Ryan Reynolds then took to Instagram to confirm the good news and, as always, poke fun at it. It looks like Deadpool will bring the hunter who killed Bambi’s mom to justice… 78 years later.
Obviously, Deadpool 3 is in early development. Very early development. But this is a great start. We know who is writing the film and we know that it will indeed be R-rated. Hopefully, as the film develops, we’ll learn how Deadpool will squeeze into the MCU.
