According to Deadline, the third Deadpool movie looks to be gaining momentum after originally making very little progress. The report suggests that Wendy Molyneux and Lizzie Molyneux-Logelin (Bob’s Burgers) are set to write Deadpool 3 with Ryan Reynolds squeezing into his skintight suit once again.
Apparently, writers have been meeting with Reynolds over the past month to pitch ideas for the third installment. The studio and Reynolds saw the sisters as the best fit for the sequel. Despite the very tiny steps this film has taken, this is an incredibly good sign for the Merc With A Mouth.
The official Deadpool Instagram account seemingly confirmed the news with their latest post.
One of the most exciting prospects regarding this sequel is Marvel’s involvement. With Disney’s acquisition, this will be the first Deadpool movie with Disney. This raises some interesting questions. Will this be set in the Marvel Cinematic Universe? or will it be set outside of the MCU to allow for Deadpool’s iconic fourth wall breaking. It’ll be very interesting to see how this will fit into the Phases.
However, one potential problem is the film’s rating. Some sources say the film is still expected to be rated R like the previous two installments. While a lower rating would allow younger audiences to enjoy Deadpool, part of his charm has always been his ability to push boundaries. We’d have to wave goodbye to gory humor and a majority of the swearing. Could this put certain audiences off? That’s a problem for another day. There hasn’t been any confirmation as of yet. It may be too early to speculate.
