Well, he died. Spoiler alert. in Zack Snyder’s Batman v Superman it is confirmed that Batman’s sidekick kicked the bucket sometime during Batman’s 20 year career in Gotham. Thanks to the lovely shot of Robin’s suit that serves as a reminder to Batman’s failure, it was also teased that the Joker played a massive role in the murder of Robin.
We received some information, courtesy of Doug Stewart– a brilliant costume designer, that might reveal what actually happened.
According to Stewart, Joker set Robin ablaze and left the burnt body for Batman. Obviously, these details were left out in the film so they had to be incorporated visually through the costume. Here you can see the distressed look of Robin’s gauntlet which indicates, not only a process of aging, but also a definite charring.
Many fans will know that in the comics Robin (Jason Todd) was beaten to death by the Joker and then left in a warehouse with a time bomb. So it looks as though Robin unfortunately suffered a very similar fate.
However, this is where it gets interesting. Zack Snyder decided to play the devil’s advocate. On his Vero account, a fan theorized that Robin was within the premises of Wayne Manor. If that’s correct, that would also explain why Bruce’s original home is in such a bad state. It was destroyed in a fire along with Robin.
Zack Snyder simply liked the comment and left it at that.
