As production is gearing up to begin on DC’s Stargirl season 2, Deadline has revealed that two new villains have been cast. After being teased in season 1, both Eclipso and The Shade are now confirmed to appear when new episodes return in 2021.
Nick Tarabay (The Expanse) will play the series regular role of Eclipso and Jonathan Cake (The Affair) will recur as The Shade. Additionally to news of their casting, Ysa Penarejo (Project Mc2) is rumoured to recur as an undisclosed DC character in season 2.
Stargirl creator/EP Geoff Johns recently teased the upcoming villainous roles during an appearance at New York Comic Con. “Eclipso is so terrifying. I’ve always loved the character, and he’s a very different antagonist or villain than the [Injustice Society of America],” Johns said. He added that The Shade is “the most powerful of them all, and very threatening because no one knows exactly what he wants.”
The show stars Brec Bassinger in the title role. Luke Wilson is playing S.T.R.I.P.E., alongside Joel McHale (Starman), Lou Ferrigno Jr. (Hourman), Henry Thomas (Dr. Mid-Nite), and Brian Stapf (Wildcat). Neil Hopkins (Sportsmaster), Joy Osmanski (Tigress), and Nelson Lee (Dragon King) will portray members of the Injustice Society.
