With all the talk of The Batman moving to March 2022 and Dune shifting from its December 2020 release there’s one other huge Warner Bros. release which everyone is talking about.
Is Wonder Woman 1984 going to debut on streaming platforms? Not is director Patty Jenkins has anything to say about it.
In a new interview with Reuters, Jenkins was asked about the impact that the Covid-19 pandemic has had on cinema globally. The director is rightly concerned that the global pandemic may have irrevocably changed the cinema experience.
“If we shut this down, this will not be a reversible process,” the filmmaker said. “We could lose movie theater-going forever. It could be the kind of thing that happened to the music industry where you could crumble the entire industry by making it something that can’t be profitable. I don’t think any of us want to live in a world where the only option is to take your kids to watch a movie in your own living room, and not have a place to go for a date.”
In a later tweet Jenkins would reaffirm that Wonder Woman 1984 WILL be a theatrically released movie saying “direct to streaming is not even being discussed.” That should hopefully put those pesky rumours to bed…
Correct. Direct to streaming is not even being discussed. We are still 100% behind the theatrical experience for #WW84 and supporting our beloved theater business. https://t.co/SDyD7Nzo0Z
