Lee Isaac Chung is set to direct the upcoming live-action adaptation of Your Name. Originally the script was adapted and written by Eric Heisserer. However, according to Deadline, Chung will also rewrite the drafted script. Chung has previously worked on Munyurangabo, Minari and various short films.
Bad Robot’s J.J. Abrams will still be producing the film alongside Genki Kawamura, who produced the original 2016 animated feature. Toho are set to distribute the film in Japan while Paramount handle the distribution in other territories.
The 2016 version follows two teenagers who can swap bodies. Destiny comes into play, worlds are changed, relationships are formed and tragedies strike. What more could you want. There is a lot more to this film than meets the eye, however if you haven’t seen it we’d love to keep it all a secret. Your Name is definitely worth a watch, particularly for its gorgeous animation, shocking twists, and fantastic soundtrack. You can check out the trailer for the hit film below.
While live-action adaptations of anime classics tend to backfire- looking at you Death Note– we are excited to see what they do with Your Name. How will they change it?
