Like plenty of other conventions around the globe, San Diego Comic Con is unable to take place physically during its usual July slot. With social distancing measures still in place it would be impossible for organisers to put on the huge scale event to the same standard as previous years.
To combat the troubles caused by the pandemic, organisers have announced Comic-Con@Home which will take place on the same dates as the original SDCC event.
“For the first time in our 50-year history, we are happy to welcome virtually anyone from around the globe,” SDCC spokesperson David Glanzer said about the free event which will be open to all fans. “Though stay-at-home conditions makes this a very difficult time, we see this as an opportunity to spread some joy and strengthen our sense of community.”
The event will take place July 22 through July 26 and will feature panels, presentations and a virtual exhibit hall packed with exclusives.
More details will be confirmed in the coming weeks.
