The second season of The Witcher is a long way away but we’ve got some incredibly exciting news. On top of the 2 new Witchers that have been casted– Paul Bullion as Lambert and Yasen Atour as Coën- a fan favourite from Game of Thrones has been rumored to have joined the highly anticipated show.
Kristofer Hivju, who played Tormund in Game of Thrones, arguably one of the greatest characters in Westeros, has reportedly been casted as Nivellen.
Fans of the book may recognize that name. For those who are new to the vast world of The Witcher, let me elaborate.
Nivellen is a character who appears in a short story written by Andrzej Sapkowski, the author of the entire book series. In “A Grain of Truth”, Geralt stumbles upon a mansion owned by Nivellen, a monstrous beast who was once a man.
Without going into too much detail as I highly recommend reading the books, this particular story has many similarities to Beauty and the Beast. You have a Beast, a curse, a spooky mansion that is also cursed, love and even a rose. It’s uncanny!
This short story is probably one of my favorites and I can’t wait to see it adapted. According to Cinemablend, this episode will likely kick-start the second season which means that Nivellen’s appearance will be short-lived. Considering the size of the chapter and the outcome, this makes a lot of sense. Just like the story with the Striga (episode 3), this story will probably be a one-off episode. However, if it’s done well… it will be a great one.
I can’t wait to see who else joins the cast. Obviously, many of us are waiting for Mark Hamill to join as Vesemir. Could it happen? I certainly hope so.
