One of the biggest speed bumps in the history of the modern DC Films universe has easily been the loss of Ben Affleck as Batman. Though Robert Pattinson looks to be a visually striking Batman there are plenty of fans who still await the moment they are able to see the actor as a contender for the role.
As the first footage of Pattinson was release last week plenty of fans were quick to jump to Ben Affleck’s defence with images of his Batman trending globally on Twitter.
In a new interview with the New York Times, Affleck has spoken incredibly candidly about his reasons for leaving the role.
“I showed somebody The Batman script,” Affleck recalled. “They said, ‘I think the script is good. I also think you’ll drink yourself to death if you go through what you just went though again.”
There are sure to be those who claim this to be media spin to help Warner Bros. distance themselves from Zack Snyder and his Batman, but its hard to argue with Affleck leaving the role for his own health.
His struggles with alcohol have been well documented and we commend him for making the brave choice to step away from the role in order to keep himself healthy.
