Deadline has some very exciting news for Lords of the Rings fans this morning. The Amazon Prime series, currently gearing up to begin production on its pilot, has received an early renewal for season 2!
The scooper understands that Amazon is impressed with the direction of the show so far and has ordered a second batch to episodes. Additionally the series will take an extended break following completion of production on the first two episodes of season 1.
Those episodes will be directed by Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom’s J.A. Bayona. The series writing team, led by showrunners and executive producers J.D. Payne and Patrick McKay, will use the break in production to map out and write the bulk of season 2 scripts.
The break in production is also to allow the crew to evaluate the footage and adjust the series accordingly going forwards. This is a normal process for new series picked up for a season order.
No release date has been set for the series as yet.
