Some sad news this morning if you were looking forward to Jane Goldsman’s prequel series to Game of Thrones. It seems HBO has passed on the series, dubbed The Long Night, which was set to star double Academy Award nominee Naomi Watts.
According to Deadline the pilot, filmed over the summer in Northern Ireland, was not well received by the network. It is rumoured that HBO execs ordered Goldsman and her team to go back and make substantial changes to the pilots edit and were still not happy with the outcome.
Inevitable rumours of behind-the-scenes woes have now begun to surface. It seems creative differences behind the camera as well as budgetary issues are also to blame for this series never making it to air.
The series comes from showrunner Jane Goldman (X-Men: First Class) along with author George R.R. Martin and director S.J. Clarkson (Jessica Jones). The story is set thousands of years (roughly 5,000, according to Martin) before the events in GoT.
The series is set to star Naomi Watts (The Ring) in the lead role with Naomi Ackie, Denise Gough, Miranda Richardson, Josh Whitehouse, Jamie Campbell Bower, Sheila Atim, Ivanno Jeremiah, Alex Sharp and Toby Regbo.
