Sad news for movie fans today as District 9 director Neill Blomkamp has confirmed he is exiting the upcoming Robocop reboot at MGM.
It was announced in late 2018 that Blomkamp had signed on to direct the reboot which is currently in scripting stage. Original franchise writers Ed Neumeier and Michael Miner are returning to serve as producer and executive producer on RoboCop Returns.
A script the pair worked on for a previous RoboCop sequel is being re-written by Justin Rhodes, notable for penning the latest Terminator installment, Terminator: Dark Fate.
Blomkamp announced the news on his Twitter:https://twitter.com/NeillBlomkamp/status/1161887748535439360
It seems it all came down to a matter of scheduling but we’re very sad to see him exiting Robocop Returns.
