Any news concerning the soundtrack for Star Wars is music to my ears. However, this news took me by complete surprise.
During The Academy of Scoring Arts which focused on John Williams’ legendary soundtrack for Jurassic Park, his brother, Don Williams, revealed some interesting details concerning the upcoming Star Wars film. He also revealed a few details about the potential runtime, which you can read here.
Jumping straight into it, Don said that:
“every theme that you ever heard is gonna be compiled into this last effort.”
Now, this opens up so many possibilities.
Don also name-dropped some themes that have definitely made the cut listing Leia, Yoda, Darth and the Phantom. It can be presumed that “the Phantom” refers to The Phantom Menance which in turn may refer to one of the most iconic themes ever to bless our ears… Duel of the Fates.
That’s right, we might hear a Duel of the Fates reprise in The Rise of Skywalker. Pinch me, this might be a dream.
Don also added:
“It’s gonna be in there and in his usual style, he hides them. You gotta go look for them. You’ll find them, but you gotta go look for them,”
This almost reminds me of Easter Egg hunting in a typical Marvel film. While we may not get the actual original theme, it’s likely that we will get some form of rendition.
“You’ll be sitting there watching the film go by and, oh, there it is! There’s two bars of it and it grabs you and takes you away.”
To all the soundtrack fans, are you excited to hear John Williams’ new score? Let us know your thoughts in the comments.
The score will reportedly wrap in September, just a few months before Episode IX’s release on December 20th 2019.
