With Aquaman splashing out of the water with an astounding $1.148 billion at the world-wide box office, fans have been itching to see more of Atlantis.
The fans got their wish, just not in the way that they anticipated. Instead of focusing on the major superheroes like Aquaman, the DC universe will be diving down into the abyss to visit The Trench.
Thanks to ComicBook.com, who spoke with James Wan, we have been given a few details regarding The Trench. Wan said:
“We, you know, we’re still deep in sort of crafting the script, crafting the story right now so I don’t want to get into that too much, but definitely it’s one that I really want to lean into the horror of it, so it’s going to play more as a monster horror movie then it will as a superhero film, but it’s still definitely part of the Aquaman world,”
Since the scenes that featured The Trench in Aquaman were incredibly horror-esque, it will be interesting to see how an entire film handles them. Even though it’s not a major release that features one of our most well-known characters, what excites me the most is how it will be filmed. The short but sweet scenes that featured The Trench stood out massively because of the way they were filmed. We got some fantastic shots, tension, even a jump scare, and a creepy soundtrack that really elevated the overall scene. Imagine an entire film like that. What’s more is that we’ll have a chance to explore more Atlantean lore. Aquaman did a terrific job at laying down the foundations but there is so much than can be explored.
Even though nothing is actually known about the spin-off right now, it’s nice knowing that Wan is moving forward with the idea.
