A new rumour has surfaced over the weekend suggesting the followup to 2018’s runaway hit Venom is searching for a new director.

Discussing Film shared a story that Reuben Fleischer is officially out of the running to return for a second go at directing the symbiotic Marvel character. But before you call creative differences there is a much more straightforward reason for the divorce from Sony Pictures.

Fleischer is currently tied up with commitments to another upcoming sequel: Zombieland: Double Tap. His duties to that movie are reportedly what has taken him out of the running for Venom 2.

2018’s Venom arrived to mixed reviews and a similar fan reaction. Despite concerns the movie went on to gross around $855M worldwide making it a bonafide box office hit.

One of Marvel’s most enigmatic, complex and badass characters comes to the big screen, starring Academy Award® nominated actor Tom Hardy as the lethal protector Venom.

Venom stars Tom Hardy in the lead role. Supporting cast includes Michelle Williams, Riz Ahmed, Scott Haze, Reid Scott and Woody Harrelson. The film is directed by Ruben Fleischer (Zombieland) from a script by Scott Rosenberg & Jeff Pinkner. Executive producers are David Householter, the legendary Stan Lee and Kelly Marcel. Venom is in cinemas worldwide now!
