Aquaman continues its box office dominance with a strong start to its third week in North American cinemas. The movie has now crossed $200M domestic following takings of $10.1M on Tuesday and $16.78M on Wednesday.
It’s domestic total heading in to Thursday is currently $216.2M. Many believe the film could reach $300M if it continues at its current pace. It currently faces very little competition at the box office until the release of M. Night Shyamalan’s Glass on January 18.
If Aquaman can reach $300M then it will have surpassed both Justice League and Man of Steel at the domestic box office. At this stage it is unlikely to catch up with the $412.5M made by Wonder Woman in 2017.
Worldwide Aquaman has now surpassed $800M with estimates placing the film around $822M. It is well on its way to grossing $900M in the next week before setting its sights on $1bn.
Many box office experts believe the film has a strong chance of grossing $1bn with many calling it a dead cert. Watch this space!
