It was only back in August that we told you this years Oscars ceremony was including a new category. The controversial new “Popular Movie” category was set to shine a light on popular movies which do not normally find success in the ceremonies main categories.
There was soon huge backlash from across the media who blasted the category as a cheap cash cow for bringing in more viewers to the annual show.
Well now the Oscars team has announced they will not be moving ahead with the new category this year. According to THR, The Academy “will continue to discuss the idea for the new award and will examine and seek additional input regarding the new category.”
