Star Trek: Discovery is part way through production on its second season. But the boat has once again been rocked as the show has lost another set of showrunners.
Bryan Fuller was original set to helm the series but left early in the first seasons production. The keys to Discovery were then handed to Gretchen Berg and Aaron Harberts. The pair saw the show through to the end of its first production cycle.
Many credit the pair with making a truly compelling, contemporary Star Trek series.
Word overnight from THR confirms that Berg and Harberts have been removed from their jobs and replaced by series Co-Creator Alex Kurtzman.
Rather than the stereotypical “creative differences” the report states that Berg and Harberts have been removed due to a lack of leadership. More worryingly it seems several of the shows writers had threatened to quit over increasingly erratic and abusive behaviour.
It is said that “five or six” episodes of the second season have been completed so far.
Alex Kurtzman is no stranger to the Star Trek universe having written J.J. Abrams 2009 reboot as well as its sequel Star Trek: Into Darkness. Kurtzman also directed the pilot of Discovery as well as being credited as Co-Creator.
