A new rumour courtesy of Aquaman Shrine has brought us a small update on the character of Mera. In DC Comics New 52 era we know that Mera’s father promised her hand in marriage to king Nereus of Atlantis. The character falls helplessly in love with Arthur putting the two men at odds.
Now this rumour points to Nereus being the father of Mera in James Wan’s Aquaman. We have little information to go on other than the rumour itself. But this would not be an entirely baseless ideas given that Amber Heard is 31 and Nereus is being portrayed by 61 year old Dolf Lundgren.

Aquaman stars Jason Momoa in the title role of Arthur Curry/Aquaman. The film also stars Amber Heard as Mera; Oscar nominee Willem Dafoe as Vulko; Temuera Morrison as Tom Curry; Dolph Lundgren as Nereus; Yahya Abdul-Mateen II as Black Manta; with Patrick Wilson as Orm/Ocean Master; and Oscar winner Nicole Kidman as Atlanna.
The film is being produced by Peter Safran, with Zack Snyder, Deborah Snyder, Rob Cowan, Jon Berg and Geoff Johns serving as executive producers.
The film hits cinemas December 21, 2018.
