Here’s some unexpected news for you. Overnight Sony pictures have announced they are pushing forward with a solo Venom film.

Back during the Andrew Garfield days Sony were actively developing spin-off films for Venom and the Sinister Six. Those were presumed to have ground to a halt when Sony entered a deal with Disney/Marvel to share rights to the Spider-Man character. No news on whether this new ‘Venom’ film will tie in to Tom Holland’s MCU Spider-Man universe.

Currently known as simply ‘Venom’ the film will hit cinemas on October 5th 2018. Does that date ring a bell? October 5th is the date that Warner Bros. ‘Aquaman’ film vacated just several hours before this announcement!

After the announcement Exibitor Relations Twitter account broke the news that Alex Kurtzman (writer of ‘The Amazing Spider-Man 2’) would be directing ‘Venom’.

They have since retracted that story and offered a new update on who will be penning the story.

We’ll keep you updated as this story develops.

One of Marvel’s most enigmatic, complex and badass characters comes to the big screen, starring Academy Award® nominated actor Tom Hardy as the lethal protector Venom.

Venom stars Tom Hardy in the lead role. Supporting cast includes Michelle Williams, Riz Ahmed, Scott Haze, Reid Scott and Woody Harrelson. The film is directed by Ruben Fleischer (Zombieland) from a script by Scott Rosenberg & Jeff Pinkner. Executive producers are David Householter, the legendary Stan Lee and Kelly Marcel.

The film arrives in  cinemas October 5, 2018! For more check out our Venom archive here!
