Deadpool screenplay nominated for Writers’ Guild Award

Having proven itself a smash hit with fans and critics upon its release in February 2016, Deadpool, Ryan Reynolds and the franchise have not been forgotten even nearly a year on.
With a sequel already in the works – with a tentative release date in 2018 – and even whispers of a Wolverine/Deadpool crossover, public interest is still very much alive.
The latest headline from the morbid mercenary though, is a nomination from the Writers’ Guild Award for Best Adapted Screenplay, written by Rhette Reese and Paul Wernick.
Deadpool was no stranger to awards in 2016 following its release, being nominated for 33 in total including MTV Movie and Critics’ Choice Awards. Ryan Reynolds bagged a Best Actor in a Comedy award from the Broadcast Film Critics Association Awards, as well as 2 MTV Movie Awards in Best Comedic Performance and Best Fight (and a Teen Choice Award for ‘Best Hissy Fit’)
Having been one of the most critically acclaimed R-rated movies of all time, (claiming the title of Highest Grossing R-rated Movie of all time) Deadpool may have its eyes set on a bigger prize.
Ryan Reynolds tweeted a hilarious letter subtly aimed at the coveted Oscar nominations, opening by saying “Apologies in advance for this simple letter. I was informed by 20th Century Fox that I’m not allowed to present you with freshly pitted greek olives, locally purchased deli meats and low-grade Canadian elk jerky.’’
With the 89th Oscars taking place on February 26, 2017, the multi award-winning Marvel blockbuster may achieve another world first; to be the first superhero movie to score the Academy Award.
