Synopsis
San Francisco is under threat from King Dong, if you will. Our entire world is threatened by this monster and its gross needs. Frank Gray foretold this monster’s coming, and now it’s up to him to bring matters to a climax…with the help of a mothballed mecha from the Disco Era. It’s a giant monster attack like you’ve never seen before, or ever will again.
Review
In this issue San Francisco is still under threat from a giant randy monster, taking a shine to the most upmarket of San Francisco’s housing and high rise offices, death and destruction isn’t on the monster’s mind he just needs to satisfy it’s monster needs unfortunately it makes a bit more of an impact than if a human needed to relieve themselves. The destruction this is causing isn’t the only issue as the pheromones that are given off from this randy romp are floating through the air and if inhaled by humans it causes havoc with their attractions and the randy romp continues. Frank Gray warned this was going to happen and no one would heed his word but now it’s time for action and there is only one person who can stop this monster, it’s time for Frank to step forward and do his thing.
This series definitely goes into the category of the comic I never knew I wanted, the action and comedy seamlessly come together creating a comic that not only flows with the visuals and story it will have you laughing out loud throughout. Gerry Duggan shoes that not all monster comics need to be serious, he keeps his tongue firmly in his cheek as the story of the mammoth lothario engulfs the San Francisco city, a great piece of trashy monster fun for those who aren’t easily offended, reader discretion is definitely advised.
The visuals are shall we say detailed, Scott Koblish does a great job in creating this hilarious monster tale, creating the visuals for “King Dong” would definitely need an creative mind and Scott definitely hits the mark here.
Verdict
It’s certainly not the most hard hitting story I’ve read but The Giant Kokju definitely hits the mark for me, it’s tongue in cheek trashy comedy makes me smile throughout. Some great visuals really do highlight the struggles of a modern monster, although probably not the best book to be reading on the bus.
