This issue provides us with a slightly different perspective on the war between heaven and hell rather than just the side of Spawn, this issue takes us on a journey introducing the character of Carrie Andrews as she embarks on a journey through Greenworld to visit the all powerful Gaia to claim her powers to fight against the ongoing assault from Spawn and his allies. With Spawn attempting to open the DeadZones he is inadvertently causing problems elsewhere in the world and others are beginning to grow tired and are looking to fight back unbeknownst to Spawn, the council is rising in Greenwood and they are not looking for a quiet chat, all out war is on the horizon one person is needed to complete the squad, one person can take on Spawn but is this being strong enough?
Rory McConville writes an interesting story with this issue taking the focus away from Spawn and putting it on the war that is bubbling behind the scenes or potentially behind Spawn’s back. Carrie Andrews is an inspirational character and I’m enjoying her being put to the forefront hopefully on going as I believe the meeting between the two will be epic.
Once again I am in love with the artwork of this book, each page is vibrant and graphic with it’s signature Spawn styling and intense detail, Carlo Barberi is an incredible artist adding a physical tension to each page and elaborating the drama of the story perfectly.
I personally feel that Spawn as a whole can continue at this pace forever and going from I am seeing lately long may it continue.
Verdict
Without doubt an outstanding issue, wasn’t sure what to expect with there being little mention of Spawn in the book but the book feels an essential part of the overall arc. For me Spawn is the best series in comics right now and it’s easy to see why.
