Synopsis
It’s three months since a haunted house walked through Santa Manos—and now the US military would like a walking ghost-powered weapon of their very own, thank you very much. The Home Sick Pilots might be the key to their getting one. If they can be convinced to sell out, that is.
Review
I’ll be honest this has probably been my most anticipated comic release this year. From reading Vol. 1, to seeing first look images, I have been eagerly awaiting getting stuck in to this issue. Was it worth the wait? In short, yes. It was all I expected and more.
Issue #6 brings the continuation of the story arc of Home Sick Pilots, it was left on somewhat of a bombshell as the haunted house walked through Santa Manos causing complete carnage in its wake. Fast forward 3 months and now the story takes a more dramatic turn as the military are trying to figure out how to create their own ghost powered super weapon. The plan would be to utilise Meg and the Pilots to make the whole thing work, Meg still has the blood covering her body that the ghosts use to control her, her only way out would be to control them.
Watters has definitely come up with the big guns with this issue bringing one of the most gripping stories I have read, if this arc isn’t picked up by a streaming service and made into a film or show then there is something wrong in the world. Truly one of the best pieces of writing out there at the minute, fully relatable for the modern generation which in turn gives it that realistic feel, making you actually feel that this could happen in reality. The arc is definitely moving towards something epic and I’m truly loving the ride.
The artwork from Wijngaard is once again stunning, using dark tones and vibrant colours such as purples and reds really give that dramatic feeling to each page engaging the readers imagination bringing them deeper into the story. You will most definitely struggle to put this down once you start.
Verdict
Well just incase I didn’t make it clear enough in the words above, I absolutely loved it. A fully engaging story with relatable characters and superb illustrations, if you buy any comic this month definitely make it this one.
