Distributor Vertigo Releasing has officially set a cinema release date for the upcoming surreal horror feature Buddy which is due to hit screens across the UK and Ireland on the 27th November. Backed by the producers behind Weapons and Friendship, the film comes from writer and director Casper Kelly, widely known for orchestrating the viral Adult Swim sensation Too Many Cooks.
The nightmare story centers on a group of children who find themselves trapped within the confines of a bizarre 1990s children’s television programme. Presiding over the warped studio setting is the titular Buddy, a towering orange unicorn mascot where any act of defiance or disobedience triggers swift, shocking violence. In the middle of this televised slaughterhouse, a determined young girl bands together with the surviving kids in a desperate bid to break out, while an outside mother named Grace ventures straight into the distorted reality to rescue her lost daughter.

Bringing the twisted world to life is an impressive ensemble cast. Keegan-Michael Key lends his vocal talents as the menacing voice of Buddy. Joining the fray in live-action roles are Cristin Milioti (The Penguin, Palm Springs), Topher Grace (Flight Risk, Spider-Man 3), Patton Oswalt (Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire), and Michael Shannon (The Shape of Water).
Boasting a speedy and punchy 95-minute runtime, Buddy promises an unpredictable collision of nostalgic Saturday morning innocence and unhinged terror when it opens wide on big screens nationwide on the 27th November.
