We are here again with another Avengers: Doomsday trailer with some more context as to what might be unfolding for Earth’s Mightiest Heroes when Doom (Robert Downey Jnr.) comes knocking on their door. Once again, I’ll be breaking down the trailer shot by shot to try and catch something not previously caught. You can catch my breakdown of the previous trailer here.
Before we dive in, you can watch the latest trailer in the player below:
We open to Doom (Robert Downey Jr) in his throne room, green magic runes glowing on the floor by his feet at he sits on his throne, we have Sue Storm (Vanessa Kirby) kick off the explanation to who Victor Von Doom actually is.
“Victor was always the smartest guy in every room,he used to be different. He used to be kind, used to be caring, and then everything he loved was taken from him. I knew he was lost but i did not realise that he was broken”
When she says all of this, we’re shown all the characters she appears to be talking to, a beaten up Magneto (Sir Ian Mckellen), Gambit (Channing Tatum), Steve Rogers (Chris Evans), US Agent (Wyatt Russell), Black Panther (Letitia Wright), M’Baku (Winston Duke), Shang-Chi (Simu Liu), Namor (Tenoch Huerta) and Thor (Chris Hemsworth). While the trailer sets it up that they are all together in this room, it could just be clever trailer manipulation but this could also be the fallout from the Sentinel battle everybody takes part in.
We also briefly see a wider look at Dooms throne room, as you can see the throne at the back of the shot, but Doom is touching the giant mural on the wall, depicting his wife and son who are long dead by now and most likely set him on this path of destruction.
In the next major shot we see a devastated New York City. with central park in the middle. Buildings destroyed beyond recognition and quite possibly no signs of life. The way we enter the shot, emerging from the smoke and debris suggests to me that this might be the Avengers first arriving in the X Mens universe and seeing the results of the start of their incursion event. Sir Ian Mckellen had said previously that Magneto is responsible for destroying New Jersey so this could be an extension of that and would give the Avengers and the Fantastic Four reason to believe the X Men are the problem.
Then we have Reed Richards (Pedro Pascal) holding Doom and demanding to know if he did this. Sounding like his heart is truly broken that his friend would cause so much destruction. The fact that Doom lets Reed hold him so aggressively shows that they have a genuine friendship prior to this and not simply a pawn for him to use.
We are then shown a montage of shots of heroes embracing their loved ones, Scott Lang with Cassie (Kathryn Newton), Johnny Storm (Joseph Quinn) and Frankyn Richards (Ada Scott), Charles Xavier (Sir Patrick Stewart) quickly cutting to a shot of Magneto in his helmet and a tear in his eye, Steve Rogers with his son baby boy James, Thor and his adopted daughter Love (India Rose Hemsworth). Then we have Loki (Tom Hiddleston) in the same shot we show in the previous trailer in what looks to be Steve Rogers house, Shuri with Ghost (Hannah John-Kamen) and Falcon (Danny Ramirez) in the background. Finally ending with Cyclops (James Marsden) looking battle worn before Doom leaps through the Avengers/F4 ships front window and onto the battlefield.
During all of this we hear Doom say the following
“All of you, have lived stolen lives. But now you must give them back.”

Then just as soon as he lands we hear the follow up to Reeds previous question to him, now yelling and demanding to know if he did ‘this’. Safe to say that this is the moment Victor goes from the ally of the Avengers and F4 to showing his true hand. My guess is he releases something that wipes out the X Men’s universe but this is purely speculative.
Then our boy himself arrives on the field, Thor Odinson! Ready to throw down 1:1 with Doom and uttering the words.
“I swear, you will beg for hell long before I grant it.”

Thor leaps towards Doom with a charged Stormbreaker in hand (no Mjonior mind you) but all that Asgardian strength means nothing to Doom who stops all momentum with just two fingers and swats Stormbreaker away before Thor is thrown back into rubble. If Thor is no match for Doom then nobody is!
Finally we are given the hardest line of the trailer from Doom himself.
“Hell answers to me. For I am Doom”
Doctor Doom
Doom slams the ground with a pulse of green magic, bringing life to the fallen sentinels in the ground, all rising at his call. At least 5 sentinels now operated by Doom stand behind him as he stands proudly with arms raised by his sides.
Finally we see the Avengers: Doomsday logo and the 18th December release date with the timer counting down again.
Now this is a much better trailer than before, we got to see more of what makes Doctor Doom such a threat to our heroes. I feel it’s a safe bet that the destroyed New York City we see here is the X Men’s universe and that perhaps despite the X Mens continued efforts to fight back incursions, Doom ignites the final nail in the coffin which kicks off Reeds emotional breakdown towards his old friend. We know that the Doom vs Thor fight takes place in the X Men universe as this is the same area where the Sentinels emerge from the rubble.
Regardless, the countdown for Doomsday continues as everything we have known since 2008 (and even earlier if you want to count the X Men in too) comes to an end thanks to Victor Von Doom!
