To celebrate the release of James Cameron’s Avatar: Fire and Ash, we sat down with some of the cast and crew to discuss all things Avatar– as a superfan, I was in my element. Our third chat was with Deborah L Scott who, much like Stephen Lang, have been heavily invested in the world of Avatar since 2009.
Through Deborah, the Na’vi culture is brought to life thanks to their unique sense of fashion and style that ultimately brings them closure to Ewya. What’s fascinating about Deborah’s role is that there is an element of physicality that is absolutely integral despite Avatar‘s use of CGI and Performance Capture. To truly understand this world and wrestle with the complexities of the various Na’vi cultures, the costumes are equally as important as the characters. Deborah’s work allows us to get closer to each tribe so it was a real honor being able to talk to her about the importance of costume design and how it is integrated into a production such as Avatar: Fire and Ash.
