Star Wars: The Last Jedi is beginning to lose steam at the box office. In North America this weekend the gross fell an estimated -52% but was still able to make $11.2M. It now places at no.6 in the top ten box office for the week ending 14th January.
Globally the story is a little more positive. With a $1.26B gross it has now become the most profitable films of 2017. In doing so the film overtakes another Disney release, Beauty and the Beast. In the list of world-wide highest grossing films of all time is currently sits in the no.10 slot.
The news from China is however not great. We know that Star Wars has never been a big deal in the Middle Kingdom. The Last Jedi is no exception to that rule. In its second week in cinemas the film has lost an estimate 90% of its screens.
It’s current Chinese gross is $38.8M and is unlikely to climb much higher at this stage.
Star Wars: The Last Jedi stars Mark Hamill, Carrie Fisher, Adam Driver, Daisy Ridley, John Boyega, Oscar Isaac, Lupita Nyong’o, Domhnall Gleeson, Anthony Daniels, Gwendoline Christie and Andy Serkis, as well as Benicio Del Toro, Laura Dern and Kelly Marie Tran.
The film is in cinemas worldwide now!
