Well Disney certainly likes to plan ahead. Tonight the studio has gone ahead and announced a huge release schedule which takes us right through to 2027!
Of course plenty of those movies are yet to be announced so you’ll see the word “Untitled” used an awful lot. But we do now have a much better picture about how the studio plans to absorb 20th Century Fox but also move forward with franchises such as the MCU and Star Wars.
As you’ll see from the below Star Wars will move to an alternate year release schedule following this year’s The Rise of Skywalker. Future entries in the Star Wars universe will arrive in 2022, 2024 and 2026.
The Marvel Cinematic Universe will release two untitled movies in 2020 before returning to its three-movies-per-year cycle in 2021 and 2022. No Marvel movies have been scheduled beyond this stage.
As part of the shakeup 20th Century Fox’s New Mutants moves back to an April 2020 release with Gambit nowhere to be found on the schedule. Though it could be one of the untitled Marvel movies it has most likely been filed away in corner never to be seen again.
As par to the shakeup the four planned sequels to James Cameron’s Avatar are all also on the move. Each movie shifts back one year with the second movie arriving gin 2021, the third in 2023, fourth in 2025 and the fifth and final movie in 2027.
We know it’s a lot to take in, in one go. Check out the full list in the tweet below.
