Daredevil #1 is available now where all good comics are sold!

    Synopsis

KNOW FEAR. (genuine synopsis from Comixology!)

    Review

This is my first time picking up Daredevil in a number of years. After a couple of different series of his I was reading came to abrupt ends I felt burned by Marvel and have shied away from picking up the book for a while.

After a strong recommendation from a friend I decided to dive back in with this issue #1. I’m certainly glad that I did. Although I’m missing a fair amount of what happened in between this is an easy series to pickup and dive in to.

Chip Zdarsky has crafted an interesting entry point to this new version of the book. I’m intrigued by this broken version of Matt Murdock and where he goes from here. Though I would never have suggested he was the lightest of characters this is definitely him at a new low point.

The addition f cflashbacks to his childhood, both pre and post accident, add an further depth to the book which I’m intrigued by.

We all know the origin of Daredevil, particularly given its wide exposure on Netflix. These flashbacks instead tell snippets of story around the life we’ve seen before. They act like confessionals from his past that resonate with his predicament in the present day.

There’s clearly some rebuilding work to be done, both physically and reputationally for the character. The metaphor of someone acting as Daredevil to take down criminals just as the true hero himself reappears is a little on the nose.

Regardless it’s still very rewarding to see him back on the streets in the classic red costume. Zdarsky and Marco Checchetto have crafted a involving visual work for the book also.

Scenes in the club and out on the streets have intricately details backgrounds which help give the visuals some real depth. Even as we see Matt lying on his bed in his apartment the moonlight through the window and the reflections it causes really enhance the visuals.

The “Daredevil-vision” is also rendered with enough detail to keep those panels interesting to the reader.

All-in-all I would say this is a great start to this latest book.

    Verdict

Daredevil #1 is a well crafted jumping off point. An interesting story angle teamed with great visuals really make this a compelling read even for the most informed of fans.

    08/10

Daredevil #1 is written by Chip Zdarsky with art by Zdarsky and Marco Checchetto and a cover by Julian Totino Tedesco.
