SHAZAM! sequel to start filming in July 2020

Shazam! (Warner Bros.)

Freddy’s in trouble in new SHAZAM deleted scene

Shazam is available across digital platforms in North America now. To promote the release Warner Bros. Home Entertainment has been sharing some of the deleted scenes from the movie across social media.

In this latest clip Freddy (Jack Dylan Grazer) finds himself in a spot of bother in the high school and needs his sister Darla (Faithe Herman) to help get him out of it.

Check out the clip in the player below. Shazam hits Blu-ray, 4K Ultra HD and DVD in North America on July 16 and arrives in the UK in August.

We all have a superhero inside us, it just takes a bit of magic to bring it out. In Billy Batson’s (Angel) case, by shouting out one word—SHAZAM!—this streetwise 14-year-old foster kid can turn into the adult Super Hero Shazam (Levi), courtesy of an ancient wizard. Still a kid at heart—inside a ripped, godlike body—Shazam revels in this adult version of himself by doing what any teen would do with superpowers: have fun with them! Can he fly? Does he have X-ray vision? Can he shoot lightning out of his hands? Can he skip his social studies test? Shazam sets out to test the limits of his abilities with the joyful recklessness of a child. But he’ll need to master these powers quickly in order to fight the deadly forces of evil controlled by Dr. Thaddeus Sivana (Strong).

Shazam! also stars Jack Dylan Grazer (“IT”) as Billy’s best friend and ultimate superhero enthusiast, Freddy, part of the foster family that includes Mary, played by Grace Fulton (“Annabelle: Creation”); Darla, played by Faithe Herman (TV’s “This is Us”); Eugene, played by Ian Chen (TV’s “Fresh Off the Boat”); and Pedro, played by Jovan Armand (TV’s “Hawaii Five-O”). Cooper Andrews (TV’s “The Walking Dead”) and Marta Milans (TV’s “Killer Women”) play foster parents Victor and Rosa Vasquez, with Djimon Hounsou (“This is Us”) as the Wizard.

Christopher Godsick, Jeffrey Chernov, Dwayne Johnson, Dany Garcia and Hiram Garcia are serving as executive producers.

SHAZAM! deleted scene gives huge nod to BLACK ADAM

Shazam! is coming home on digital HD across North America from tomorrow. That is followed by a Blu-ray and DVD release following on July 16 and it’s European release also arriving in July.

We’ve now got a first look at a deleted scene from the movie and this one features some familiar themes. The scene comes from late in the movie when the full Shazam! Family visit the Rock of Eternity.

As the family sits down on their thrones they discuss who might fill the empty seventh seat. Check out the clip in the player below!

SHAZAM! home video release confirmed to include 20+ minutes of deleted/alt scenes

There has been plenty of rumours about just how much of Shazam! was left on the cutting room floor. Director David Sanberg touch on the subject during a new interview with Collider and had some exciting news for fans.

Though he didn’t go in to great detail Sanberg confirmed roughly how many scenes will be included in the release and how long they run for.

“It’s something like 15 scenes if it all made it on there. I think it’s 20+ min in length but there’s stuff repeated from the movie to give context. Also, a lot of it are alternate scenes so it’s not like you could make a 20-minute longer version of the film” said Sanberg.

Though nobody was expecting a directors cut it’s good to see Sanberg confirm that no such cut exists.

SHAZAM! takes top spot again with $25M second weekend

Warner Bros. and partners New Line have plenty to celebrate this morning as Shazam! remains top of the worldwide box office.

In its second weekend at the domestic box office the movie held off competition from Hellboy to remain at number 1 with around $25.1M. That’s a drop of -53% which is in line with other comic book movies opening in the $50-60M range.

It’s domestic total is now just shy of $95M and will cross $100M by midweek.

The Zach Levi feature also remains number one at the international box office following a $35.9M haul. That was just enough to keep the movie number one at the worldwide box office.

It’s international total now sits at $163.9M and its global tally has reached $258.8M.

Thanks, as always, to BoxOfficeMojo for the figures.

Dwayne Johnson

Dwayne Johnson congratulates SHAZAM! on opening weekend success, updates on BLACK ADAM (video)

Before there was Shazam! there was Black Adam. It’s been a number of years since Dwayne Johnson confirmed he would be taking on the role of Zachary Levi’s villainous counterpart in the DC Films universe.

With Johnson developing that movie and subsequently Shazam! his name is on the latter as an Executive Producer. Now that the movie is sitting atop the world wide box office Johnson has taken to social media to congratulate the cast and crew.

As part of the video below he also confirms that the much anticipated Black Adam movie “should” be going in to production in around a year. This could mean we are looking at a 2021/22 release.

SHAZAM! opens to an estimated $158.8M worldwide

After a nervous weekend the first numbers for Shazam! are in. The movie has opened to an estimated (and respectful) $158.7M worldwide.

The David F. Sanberg directed pictures bowed with around $53.4M at the domestic box office, with the added $3.3M from pre-Thursday previews that figure is pumped up to a running total of $56.7M.

China leads the way at the international box office with an estimated $31M. The movie hasn’t played quite as hugely as expected in the market. Word of mouth on the more child friendly humour appears to have pushed the numbers down across the weekend. Nevertheless the opening is still one of Warner Bros. highest in the market.

China is followed by Mexico with $6.2M and we here in the UK generated an impressive $5.3M. Other top territories include Russia ($5.2M), Brazil ($5.1M), Indonesia ($4.1M), Korea ($3.9M), Australia ($3.4M), France ($2.8M), Taiwan ($2.7M), Thailand ($2.2M), Malaysia ($2M), Italy ($2M), Spain ($1.7M) and Germany ($1.4M).

According to BoxOfficeMojo the global tally for Shazam! currently sits at $158.8M.
