Yesterday via Entertainment Weekly and People Magazine, Lionsgate unveiled the first photo of ‘Pitch Perfect’ star Elizabeth Banks in full costume as the villainous Rita Repulsa in the upcoming ‘Saban’s Power Rangers’ film. Due in cinemas March 24, 2017 the film is being directed by Dean Israelite, the script is written by John Gatins, Burk Sharpless and Matt Sazama, Zack Stentz and Ashley Miller, and Max Landis. ‘Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice’ might not be sitting atop the worldwide box office anymore but that doesn’t mean that the film has stopped earning money. In it’s fourth weekend in cinemas the film has now grossed $310M at the US domestic box office earning a further $9M. Internationally the film added $15.1M from the 67 markets where it still remains active taking the international cume to $516M. Today Lionsgate films has unveiled the logo from their 2017 film reboot of the ‘Mighty Morphin Power Rangers’ series. The film is due for release on March 24, 2017 and will see the franchise return to the roots that have now seen it grow in to a 20+ year franchise. Word has broken overnight that Ben Affleck has been confirmed to director his own solo ‘Batman’ film as part of the DC Extended Universe. Warner Bros. chairman and CEO Kevin Tsujihara confirmed during an event as part of the CinemaCon currently happening in the US. No news yet on which of the two previously announced unnamed slots in the DCEU (more on that here) this film will take. Today the DC Extended Universe on film has become a little longer with the announcement that two new mystery untitled DC Comics films have been added to the release slate. The first of these two films will be released on October 5th 2018 and the second on November 1st 2019.
