The article ‘Can the ‘Justice League’ Keep Up With Offbeat Superheroes?’ looks at the production and release of the film but also the future of DC Films. On the production of the film the article notes that the appointment of John Berg and Geoff Johns to head the DC Films Unit was a direct consequence of the reception to Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice. Disney star Asher Angel has been announced to star as Billy Batson in the upcoming Shazam film. Earlier this evening Variety exclusively broke the news that Angel, star of Andi Mack, will be joining Zachary Levi (Chuck) in the as-yet-undated picture. Rumours circulating in the press have Mark Strong (Kingsman) in talks to play the villainous Doctor Sivana. Grace Fulton is also rumoured to be joining the cast in a supporting role. David F. Thor: Ragnarok finally made its debut in North American cinemas this week. After an excellent opening weekend at the international box office the film has repeated its success domestically. Reports are coming in that the film has made an estimated $121m over the three day weekend. Starting with Thursday night previews the film was able to make $46.82m on Friday followed by $44.36m on Saturday. Estimates for Sunday have the Marvel three-quel making a further $29.83m for a total of $121m. That’s a long way ahead of the $65.72m made by the first Thor in 2011. In an effort to avoid spoilers Marvel and director Taika Waititi went to a lot of trouble to ‘fix’ scenes from both Thor: Ragnarok and Avengers: Infinity War. Beware there are major spoilers ahead! In the climactic battle with Hela in Thor: Ragnarok the God of Thunder lost an eye. By the films climax the character is seen wearing an eye patch very similar to that of his father, Odin. Social media savvy fans will know the Justice League cast was in London this weekend for the films press junket. On Friday night there was a dinner for the press followed by a screening of the film. Then Saturday and Sunday consisted of interviews with the cast and crew plus a press conference.
