NEON has announced today it’s releasing the sci-fi action thriller Hope, from celebrated filmmaker Na Hong-Jin (The Wailing, The Yellow Sea, The Chaser), in cinemas across the UK and Ireland on 25th September. The film will receive its UK Premiere in IMAX at Edinburgh Film Festival on 16th August. The exceptional and epic blockbuster, which will screen in a range of Premium Large Formats (PLFs) that spotlights its grand scale, has already had home turf success in South Korea, with a number one debut at the box office and the third biggest release in the country to date.

Following its lauded premiere in competition at the Cannes Film Festival, the film stars South Korean superstars Hwang Jung-min (The Wailing, Deliver Us from Evil), Zo In-Sung (Possible Loves, Something Happened in Bali, A Dirty Carnival), and HoYeon (Squid Game, Disclaimer), along with Taylor Russell (Bones and All, Waves), Cameron Britton (Mindhunter, The Umbrella Academy), Alicia Vikander (Tomb Raider, The Danish Girl), and Michael Fassbender (Shame, The Killer).

Watch the film’s original trailer in the player below:

In the remote South Korea village of Hope Harbor, police chief Bum-seok (Hwang Jung- min) and officer Sung-ae (Hoyeon) are called to find a mysterious creature that has wreaked havoc on the village. In the nearby forest, a coterie of hunters, including Sung- ki (Zo In-Sung) set out to track the beast and find themselves hunted instead. But all is not as it seems, and perceptions can be misleading. What begins as ignorance plants the seed of disaster, escalating through human conflict into a tragedy of cosmic proportions.

Hope is a breathtaking spectacle, gripping action and thrilling adventure, and NEON is elated to bring it to audiences in the UK and Ireland. Last month, the film premiered at the New York Asian Film Festival where Na Hong-Jin was awarded the Daniel A. Craft Award for Excellence in Action Filmmaking. Up next, the film will screen at TIFF’s official Midnight Madness selection, with NEON set to release the film in North America on September 9th.

Hope will be released in UK and Irish cinemas by NEON from September 25, 2026.
