One of the biggest reveals from last night’s Marvel Studios panel in Hall H at San Diego Comic-Con confirmed a rumour which has long existed online. Barbie and Project Hail Mary actor Ryan Gosling is now confirmed as the MCU’s Johnny Blaze in a Ghost Rider movie set to release in 2028.
Gosling was on hand to announce the project alongside Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige and the film’s director, none other than Deadpool & Wolverine’s Shawn Levy. It was also confirmed that Star Wars: Starfighter scribe Jonathan Tropper will be penning the script for the project. All three worked together on Starfighter which is set to release in cinemas in 2027.
No major details were revealed for the project but a new logo was show off on the big screen and then shared on social media across the Marvel accounts:
This isn’t Ghost Rider’s first trip to live action. Nicolas Cage played Johnny Blaze twice, in 2007’s Ghost Rider and 2011’s Ghost Rider: Spirit of Vengeance, before Sony’s rights reverted to Marvel. The character then resurfaced on TV, with Gabriel Luna playing the Robbie Reyes incarnation across Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.’s fourth season, though it is still up for debate whether that series exists in MCU continuity or not.
