We’re just under three weeks away from the release of Spider-Man: Brand New Day in cinemas. The first of Marvel Studios’ two planned movies for 2026 is already setting a course to be one of the highest grossing films of the year. Now we have some spoilery news which might jut make the film an even bigger box office draw…
Studio head Kevin Feige is currently appearing at BilibiliWorld in Shanghai, China and seemingly confirmed that another much-loved MCU character will be making some kind of appearance in Brand New Day, perhaps helping to tie the film to December’s Avengers: Doomsday. Appearing onstage alongside a cosplayer dressed as Black Widow and Thunderbolts* lead Yelena Belova (Florence Pugh), Feige teased that the leader of the New Avengers may be appearing on the big screen sooner than we think:
“If you’re a fan of Yelena, wait until Avengers: Doomsday, Yelena plays a big part in that. But if you don’t want to wait until then, you might see Yelena a little bit sooner in the movies.”
Given that Tom Holland’s fourth headline outing as Peter Parker is the only other Marvel Studios release this year that all but confirms Yelena will be putting in an appearance. Time for us to start speculating as to what that could mean for Brand New Day’s story.
It’s a BRAND NEW DAY for Peter Parker. Fighting crime full-time as Spider-Man in a world that doesn’t remember him—and the pressure of seeing his old friends move on without him—sparks a change in Peter he may not have the power to control. But that transformation might also be the only thing that can stop a shocking new threat to the city and those he loves – a powerful villain no one can even see. The world may have forgotten Peter Parker, but he hasn’t forgotten them.
Directed by Destin Daniel Cretton, Spider-Man: Brand New Day was written by Chris McKenna & Erik Sommers. The film stars Tom Holland, Zendaya, Sadie Sink, Jacob Batalon, Jon Bernthal, Trammel Tillman, Micheal Mando and Mark Ruffalo.
Sony Pictures presents Spider-Man: Brand New Day in UK and Irish cinemas from July 29, 2026.
