If you ask me, Godzilla works best when the King of the Monsters is, at his core, a monster. Not a hero, a protector, nor dancing on an alien world, but a beast of immeasurable destructive power capable of wiping out the human race.
When Godzilla was devised for the original 1954 film by Tomoyuki Tanaka, Shigeru Kayama, and director Ishirō Honda, he represented the deadly horrors of the atomic bomb and the carelessness and ignorance born from humanity’s thirst for godlike control.
