Disney+ is officially ordering a second helping of Marvel Television’s brilliant Wonder Man starring Yahya Abdul-Mateen II.
Abdul-Mateen II will return as Simon Williams with Sir Ben Kingsley also confirmed to return as Trevor Slattery. The two were last seen disappearing into the sunset as Williams rescued his Hollywood mentor from a D.O.D.C. facility. Season 2 will no doubt pick up with what happens now that the two men are on the run.
Destin Daniel Cretton (Spider-Man: Brand New Day, Shang-Chi) and Andrew Guest are also on board for the second season as co-creators of the series. Guest returns as showrunner and executive producer, while Cretton returns as director and executive producer.
In our four-star review of season one Neil said “Wonder Man proves the MCU can still surprise us with intimate, character-driven storytelling that feels refreshingly human. Though its finale flirts with superhero spectacle, this Hollywood-set dramedy succeeds on the strength of its performances and willingness to break the superhero formula. A rewarding creative risk for Marvel Television.”
In the series, aspiring Hollywood actor Simon Williams is struggling to get his career off the ground. During a chance meeting with Trevor Slattery, an actor whose biggest roles may be well behind him, Simon learns legendary director Von Kovak is remaking the superhero film “Wonder Man.” These two actors at opposite ends of their careers doggedly pursue life-changing roles in this film as audiences get a peek behind the curtain of the entertainment industry.
The first season of Wonder Man is available to stream now globally on Disney+.
