Netflix has today announced it is handing a series order to Living the Dream, an incisively observed workplace sitcom from BAFTA nominated multi-hyphenate George Gendi (Gumball, Apple & Onion) and Hanna-Barbera Studios Europe. The streamer has also debuted a first-look image from the series.
News of the upcoming adult animation was unveiled by Julio Bonet (Director, Animation Series at Netflix) at Manchester Animation Festival, during the ‘State of the Animation Nation’ panel.
The series centres on best friends Des and Ray, a couple of really cool guys from London who should have made it big by now but haven’t but still could. Instead they’re stuck at a we’re-gonna-save-the-planet type company called Ecofood, doing “social media” for hardly any money. Now they must navigate awkward workplace romance, HR blunders, directives from the L.A. office and Ray’s dad’s disapproval. Could be worse, but could be much, much better.
Take a first look at both of the leads in the full image below:
Speaking of the announcement series writer, creator and actor George Gendi says “If living the dream is being asked for a quote for a press release to announce my new show and then at Netflix’s request, trying to make it more cheeky/funny and then doing that countless times because none of them are good enough, then I’ve made it. Anyway, let’s see if they let me use this one.”
The 8 episode series is executive produced by Sam Register (Looney Tunes Cartoons, Teen Titans Go!), Sarah Fell (The Wonderfully Weird World of Gumball, The Heroic Quest of the Valiant Prince Ivandoe) & Daniel Lennard (The Amazing World of Gumball, The Heroic Quest of the Valiant Prince Ivandoe). The series writers include Phoebe Walsh, Ellie White, Joe Parnham, Joe Markham and George Gendi.
