After a hugely successful relaunch earlier this year, the latest issue of Heavy Metal is now available in stores. One of the stand-out titles from this new era of the magazine has been John Stanisci’s Gladiatrix, which fuses history, sci-fi, fantasy and hyper-violence into a potent bloody mix. Today we’re taking a look at the latest chapter of the story with new preview art.
The latest chapter was penned alongside artist Marco Failla, colourist David Baron and letterer Tom Napolitano.
“Gladiatrix is the project I have dreamt of doing for years” says writer, artist and co-creator, John Stanisci, “so having the opportunity to share it with readers through the pages of the new Heavy Metal has been a real honour. I’m humbled by the incredible response we’ve received so far, and to launch the third instalment with a signing at the iconic Forbidden Planet New York is just the icing on the cake!”
On an ancient world ruled by eldritch forces, a fierce warrior steps into an arena to confront a sinister gatekeeper and a horde of the undead, but the real test will come from the emerging hero’s willingness to face the haunting weight of her own sins. Issue 3 offers further revelations in the Gladiatrix saga and sets the stage for what’s to come – making it the perfect jumping-on point.
“We launched straight into things with issue 1 and continued the momentum in issue 2, but this third instalment really kicks things up a notch,” adds Stanisci. “For those who still haven’t got on board the Heavy Metal train, this is your perfect opportunity to pick up the first three issues all at once and see what the fuss is about. I’m confident you’ll fall in love with Gladiatrix and everything else the team is working on!”
Gladiatrix was co-created by John Stanisci and Oscar nominated screenwriter Dan Gordon (Rambo V, The Hurricane) with special thanks to Charley and Vlas Parlapanides, the creators of Blood Of Zeus on Netflix and Ink for Heavy Metal.
Heavy Metal #3 is available now. You can find it (and earlier issues) at your local comic shop, newsstand or online direct from shop.HeavyMetal.com.
